Unit 3 was a complex unit on the circulatory system and respiratory system. Everything to do with the functioning of our heart, blood flow, and breathing. There is a lot of detail that you have to remember, especially naming the components of the heart.
There is many causes of a heart attack and or stroke. The most common for a stroke is atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, lack of exercise, poor diet, and much more. In order to prevent a heart attack and/or stroke from occurring it important to live a healthy live style where you are exercising, eating healthy and much more.
The cardiovascular system is the blood within the circulatory system, that delivers oxygen and nutrients to every single cell in the body. We learned about the function of the veins, arteries, capillaries and much more and how the arteries carry blood away from the heart and the veins carry blood back to the heart.
We also learned about components of blood, and different types of white blood cells such as, monocytes, lymphocytes, neutrophils and many more and how they are responsible for responding to certain things that happen within the body.
Also with in this unit we learned about many conditions that people can have with cardiac and respiratory issues. some of these conditions are sickle cell anemia, pneumonia, asthma, "head cold", "chest cold" and so many more. We learned how they are caused, how they effect our body and how they can be treated. When we were learning about the cardiac system we learned what and EKG, MRI, EEG, CAT scan are and what they are used for.
I really enjoyed unit 3. It was a complex unit with a lot of detail that you had to remember. I think the hardest thing for me was to learn the functioning of the heart. Some of the cycles were harder to remember. I enjoyed learning how to take blood pressure, and starting to do the sheep heart dissection. I am keeping track with all my goals but haven't thought of any new ones from the remainder of the year. I also enjoyed drawing a heart with the chalk it was a fun way to work with members of your group and also working together to remember the different parts of the heart.
